The Budding Scientist Garden

This ‘Budding Scientist’ garden was inspired by the wonders of science and was created with young people as a creative learning project designed to highlight the possibilities and benefits of learning outdoors. The project linked lots of different aspects of the school curriculum and enabled young people to be inspired by science and the natural world and take their learning outdoors at every opportunity.

The garden was created for the high school and before installation at the school, it was showcased at the Malvern Spring Gardening Show, the second largest garden show in the UK. The ‘Budding Scientist’ garden was awarded a prestigious Silver Gilt award from the RHS which was a fantastic achievement. The project provided a fantastic learning opportunity for all of the participants and raised awareness of how science and maths can be taught outside in effective creative ways improving the interest of students and teachers in the subjects.

The sense of pride amongst the school community and in particular the students was immense and meeting the BBC Gardeners World Team and receiving their award from Chris Beardshaw added kudos and generated further media interest that helped share the project locally and nationally.
