Community lead innovative sculptural pieces
Sculpture
Universal Learning Ltd are a team of passionate sculptors who like to create three dimensional installations using a wide range of sculptural forms inspired by the elements. We can work in any medium but always use use sustainably sourced materials. We love to challenge ourselves with new opportunities and also challenge perceptions by blurring the lines between architecture, sculpture, spatial design, function and aesthetics. For example we have created and installed a floating classroom, inspired by the concept of nesting using found logs and have made chromatically accurate sound sculptures from scrap found in skips!
Community Engagement
Artistic projects have the potential to brings people from all walks of life together and our community sculptural projects do just that. Our ideas can capture the collective imagination and inspire collaboration and we take great pleasure from seeing people working together, overcoming perceived barriers and demonstrating diversity in action.
Las Fallas in Valencia in Spain where the whole community creates large sculptures over a six month period to then parade and finally burn at the Celebration Festival in Spring, is a good example of our ethos and how we aspire to work collectively with a community towards shared goals and outcomes and we have delivered a diverse range of large and small scale projects.
3D Learning Workshops
Thinking in 3D and understanding the principles and concept of 3D shapes is a demanding set of challenges for children to grasp. We provide engaging creative workshops that enable young learners ( and teachers) to explore new ways to understand and use three dimensional form within a learning context.
We have introduced quite complex and sophisticated ideas such as perspective drawing and structural integrity through a dynamic mix of theoretical and hands on activities that see children really grasp the concepts and express their understanding. These workshops inspire the development of transferable skills and who knows, maybe the next generation of sculptors, designers and architects
Public Commissions
We work with a small team of specialist associates and have worked on a variety of large scale public projects. We are always looking for our next opportunity with open minds and would love to take on a commission that reflects the thinking and the needs of people at this time, and express those ideas though a piece of work that is both timeless and future proof.
We have several conversations going on at the moment and are looking at some very interesting site specific opportunities. We are exploring at concept stage how we can make a large scale piece inspired by and representing the elements that make us all unique whilst at the same time celebrating our sense of belonging and the need for a place within a community.
