Mellow Yellow

Mellow Yellow creative writing and reading for Primary Schools

Our Latest book for early years is finished, we are all very excited by Mellow Yellow!

Our books are produced and published as part of creative learning projects with young children. They are available as free downloads and also as printed paperbacks. Creating a book is a great cross curricular enrichment opportunity and often the idea becomes a platform for bigger schemes of work. The heroic hippo in this story is to become a beautiful and unique sculpture in the school grounds. The sculpture is a parallax made of wooden poles and the children have to be able to become architects, designers and sculptors as part of the process gaining real experience of those industries alongside professionals.

Yellow Ladybird loves nothing more than wandering in the Woodland smelling beautiful flowers. One day his friends fly off without him leaving him stranded and in need of help. Caterpillar comes to the rescue and promises to help Yellow ladybird to fly. But Caterpillar disappeared and Yellow Ladybird was very worried, but with the help of the Woodland creatures Yellow Ladybird witnesses some natural magic and is soon soaring in the sky with his friends.

This delightful story introduces Woodland creatures to young children and presents the amazing transformation of the Caterpillar into a Butterfly in a humorous and informative way.

Following on from the release of Hercules the Hippo we are straight on to our next title that involves following a curiously creative ( and a bit clumsy) Yellow Ladybird through the  woodland undergrowth on a series of adventures as she searches for her missing friend . The book originates in a creative learning session with children, ( in this case reception children but we work with all primary ages) that stimulates a range of outcomes from them. They write the context, draw the main characters, animate them, do news broadcasts and produce a spoken word version. From this ‘ back of a fag packet’ story board the story takes on a life of its own in the hands of our talented illustrator Paul Clay.

Adventures of Phoenix

Adventures of Phoenix

KS2 learners have been producing fantastic stories using digital creativity.

One of the joys of working with children is their ability to consistently amaze. Given the opportunity their imagination knows no bounds and is a constant source of inspiration. Working on this recent project, children have been able to lead a creative process and produce stories using a mix of reading, writing, illustration and digital tools. This short film is just one example of the many outcomes from this creative experience.

The complete collection of stories have been showcased in sharing events today and the impact upon learning, skills and confidence has been fantastic. Later the children will be reflecting and disseminating and documenting their learning.
